A powerful tool for computer simulation in the NDE industry

Imagine being able to simulate a complete NDE test right on your computer. Now you can! VIC-3D® is the first commercially available software for advanced NDE analysis. VIC-3D® constructs a model of your NDE probe, test sample, and flaw. Using this model, VIC-3D® predicts probe signals for the NDE inspections you describe.

Comments From Satisfied Users

Why is VIC-3D® the leader in NDE Simulation Software?

VIC-3D® is easy to use
Just give VIC-3D® a description of the measurement you wish to model by selecting from VIC-3D®'s menu items and entering the appropriate values for probe geometry, material conductivity, etc. That's all -- because unlike other software, VIC-3D® requires no complicated meshes.
VIC-3D® is fast and accurate
VIC-3D® uses leading-edge mathematical techniques and an innovative volume-integral formulation to achieve accuracies unobtainable by other software and which has been validated against international benchmark problems. This advanced theory and technical approach permits results to be computed very rapidly and with little computer memory, even on commodity PC's.
VIC-3D® is versatile
VIC-3D® will model absolute and differential probes, rotated and non-circular coils, even probes with ferrite cores and encasements. It can model layered materials with planar and tubular geometries. It can model cracks as well as flaws due to manufacturing defects, corrosion, pitting, or other destructive processes. Its simple-to-use modeling primitives allow the analyst to construct the most complicated flaws, cores, and other anomalies with ease -- and without complicated meshing required of other codes.
VIC-3D® presents results clearly
VIC-3D® presents results in both tabular and graphic form. A variety of graphic formats with both 2D and 3D surface plots make results easy to understand. Impedance-plane formats simulate the display of your NDE instruments. And an advanced and fully-configurable data filtering utility gives the user a wide array of post-processing options.

List of Significant Features

VIC-3D® has a wide range of applications. Here are a few examples.

Use VIC-3D® to determine layer thicknesses
Let's say you have an oxide coating on a carbon-carbon test piece, and you need to know the thickness of the coating. You can use VIC-3D® together with probe measurements to determine the thickness.

Use VIC-3D® to design a probe
Let's say you are designing an air-core probe and would like it to be optimum for subsurface flaws with dimensions of about 2mm. You can use VIC-3D® to compute the response to such a flaw for a series of probes with increasing outer radii and compare the results. VIC-3D® makes this easy by allowing you to "range" over any of the parameters of your model probe -- in this case select the probe outer radius as your "range" parameter and specify a stepsize and range limits. VIC-3D® will then compute signals for probes with all radii in your range. Displaying the results for all probes together, you can quickly see which probe radius gives the best signal. Now, do you need to know the effect of a 300 ft. coaxial cable on this design? VIC-3D® will tell you!
